Copper Pill Print for 1405/1504

Hey guys, I wanted to post this here in the general section to get a lot of eyes on it. If the mods really hate it here feel free to move it to a more appropriate sub-forum.

I just got in on the copper pill list from Nikola for my Courui, and I asked him if he had any plans to make a copper pill for those. He doesn’t have a 1405 or 1504 so I offered to reverse engineer the 1405 pill, with the assumption that it will fit the 1504. I wanted to share the print (ok, not the best I’ve ever done, I know I broke a few dimensioning rules to speed things up) on here in case we have some machinists here in the US that wanted to think about making and selling copper pills to cut down on the shipping costs of them coming from overseas. Obviously for those of you in Europe, if Nikola decides to make some, he’d likely be your cheapest source.

The main differences between the stock pill and the modified one are a slightly shorter shelf at the top, a slightly larger opening at the top of the pill for light to get out (bigger chamfer), a longer threaded portion fitting the body tube, and a stepped driver cavity. I’m aware that not all drivers will fit the stepped cavity as is, but most of us own dremels or something that could create clearance for larger components. I have measured a 16 chip Q.lite driver and it will fit with a bit of clearance, and the 5A driver available on Mountains website will with a little help from a dremel to fit the toroid. The steps will fit 17, 20, and 22mm drivers and a 16mm MCPCB.

That’s some good work there KKW. With the group buy I imagine there will be some interest.

3 days for the first post. Makes me think that there isn’t actually much interest in a copper pill for multiple driver sizes for these lights. I guess time will tell. If it comes down to it I’ll just have them made for myself at work and delete the thread if there’s no interest.

I love that drawing though. :-)

Is it possible to reverse engineer a Convoy S2 host and then make it a bit more exciting? I'm completely ignorant of this type of stuff, but is it possible to make a digital drawing of a flashlight you like, adjust the design and simply feed it to a CNC-machine and have plenty copies made?

I’d love a machine like that, but no.

I want the same machine, but for pizza

Cnc machining is still a lot of work. It’s not like a 3d printer. I’m actually doing some pretty neat things with a convoy S2+ at the moment. E switch in the tail, copper pill.

I’m interested. In Europe.

Ciao and thx

Blog software lag? I usually read with “Recent Posts” view (several times a day) and today’s the first time I saw this thread existed.

No big deal, I just thought it was a case of an answer without a problem when no one was posting anything. For me this is an even bigger deal for the 1405 than the 1504 as it would give a lot more driver options with little to no modification necessary on the pill. For the 1504 I’ll probably use Q.lite drivers for most builds, so brass is fine.
