Disassembling 18650 cell question?

That advice needs to be more-widely known, you bet!!

Just to be thorough, the 18650’s on-topic are NOT Primary Lithium cells, they are Lithium ION based, which have a whole different set of warnings and precautions.

Not to diminish the warning about Primaries!!!

The hydroflouric acid exposure case on CPF was lithium primaries. I remember this came up in discussion before on BLF. Duracell lithium primary MSDS mentions thermal degradation can produce HF.

I am sorry if my post was a bit confusing, I figured you were probably dismantling a Li-Ion cell, but did not clarify it. Both Li-Ion secondary cells and Lithium Metal Primaries do come in an 18x650mm cylindrical size. Under certain charge/discharge conditions, (Can’t remember which off hand, but think it happens when the batteries are repetitively over-discharged), the lithium-ions can be converted into small deposits of lithium metal posing an increased fire or explosion risk.

Extremely dangerous. I hope others reading this thread don’t get the wrong idea. :Sp
